Principal's Message

Dear Parents of San Jacinto USD Head Start/State Preschool,

On behalf of the entire faculty, I would like to welcome you and your family to the 2020-2021 school year!

I am honored and feel very privileged to be the Director at San Jacinto Preschool for the sixth year. Beginning school is such an exciting time for you and your child. I am delighted that you considered San Jacinto Preschool to begin your child’s journey through his/her academic experience. Our commitment at San Jacinto Preschool is to support children’s growth and development in a positive learning environment through a variety of services.

Even though we will be starting the year differently, our goal is to ensure the students in our program are being prepared for kindergarten. The preschool will provide instruction through distance learning. Distance learning can be overwhelming because it is something new for our little learners, and it involves interactions with teachers and other students through technology rather than face-to-face. The teachers will work with the families to provide a fun learning experience through virtual learning. During the first two (2) weeks of school, preschool parents will receive take home activities for students to work during independent learning. Different from when we experienced closure last spring, students are required to participate each day.

  •       Live instruction (Synchronous): For an hour or less, teacher and student working together through Zoom or Google Meets. The instruction will start with a large group instruction followed by small group instruction (break out rooms) and then back to large group instruction. Breakout groups allows teachers to provide instruction/activity in a small group setting.
  •       Independent learning (Asynchronous): Teacher and student working independently with activities provided by the teacher through Seesaw or Learning Genie platform.
  •       Zoom video conferencing: Zoom is the platform teachers will use as your child's virtual classroom. You will have direct access to your child's virtual classroom inside through Clever or you can click on this icon to enter your Zoom's course ID and password provided by your child's teacher.

  •       Learning Genie is your tool to communicate with your child's teacher and access links to daily videos and activities. If you have not already, download the Learning Genie for Parents App from the App Store or Google Play. Upon downloading the app, you will need to sign up and enter your Parent Code which will be sent to you via email after enrolling your child in preschool.

It is very important that teachers communicate with students, provide feedback, and be available to students. The teachers may set virtual office hours on-line or on the phone. When allowable under state and local health standards, the preschool program will return students to campus under a hybrid model (a combination of classroom learning with some online instruction).

For this school year 2020-2021, the preschool opened two more classrooms. We opened an Inclusion Preschool classroom at Megan Cope. In addition, we opened a part day, double session Dual Language classroom at Edward Hyatt World Language Academy serving 32 more students in this program.

Family involvement is vital to the educational success of children. We will continue to have coffee with the Director via Zoom. This is a time where parents/guardians hear the latest updates and events of the program. In addition, it is also a time for parents to hear about the instructional program, gain strategies to assist their children, ask questions and/or share concerns that will positively impact student academic achievement. I enjoyed meeting with our parents and sharing in celebrating our school’s progress. Hope to see many of you at this event- “Coffee with the Director.” In addition, both our Head Start and State programs conducts monthly Parent Policy Committee meetings (via Zoom for now and later in-person when it is safe to do so). We hope you will become involved in attending these meetings because your input and ideas matters!

I encourage you to really dive into our website and learn all you can about our school. San Jacinto Preschool will ensure that our future ready learners are prepared for kindergarten. Here at San Jacinto Preschool, we create an environment where the strengths, hopes, and passions of families are valued and reinforced!

If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to come by and see me.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Zaragoza
